The blue arc shows how much of a full 24-hour day your selected interval covers. Orange dot = result time, dark dot = base time on a 24-hour dial.

Tip: For intervals longer than 24 hours, the ring completes full circles and the timeline below stays proportional.

How the visuals work

Analog clocks show the exact hour/minute/second for result vs base. 24-hour ring maps both times onto one day dial and shades the interval. Timeline places result and base on a bar so you can feel the distance. Hour ticks break hour-based intervals into steps.

How it calculates

For “ago”, the amount is subtracted from the base time; for “from now”, it is added. If the result crosses midnight, the date moves automatically — month and year boundaries included.

How to read the clocks and visuals

The two analog clocks are the fastest way to verify the answer. The Result Clock (amber) shows the calculated time; the Now / Base Clock (blue) shows the starting time. If the hour hands look close, the interval is small; if they point opposite, you are about 6 hours apart on a 12-hour dial.

The 24-hour ring removes AM/PM confusion: midnight is at the top, noon at the bottom, 6 AM on the right and 6 PM on the left. The blue arc is the interval you selected as a share of a full day — 6 hours fills exactly one quarter of the ring. The timeline bar underneath does the same thing in a straight line, and the phase banner tells you at a glance whether the result lands at night, dawn, daytime or dusk.

Worked example: 6 hours ago

If it is currently 2:34 PM, subtracting 6 hours gives 8:34 AM the same day. On the clocks you will see the Now hand near 2:34 and the Result hand near 8:34. On the 24-hour ring, the arc covers 25% of the day. If it is instead 2:00 AM, 6 hours ago is 8:00 PM yesterday — the date pill switches to “Yesterday” and the phase banner turns dark for nighttime.

Examples

  • 6 hours ago from now — the default view; both clocks refresh every second.
  • 30 minutes from now — set Number = 30, Period = Minutes, Direction = From now; watch the minute hands separate.
  • 3 days ago — set Number = 3, Period = Days; the ring completes 3 full days and the date pill shows the shift.
  • Custom base — switch “Base time” to a custom date & time to visualize from any starting moment.

Common uses

  • Working out shift start times, deadlines, and countdowns
  • Checking when a post, message, or event happened (“posted 6 hours ago”)
  • Flight, train, and meeting planning across a day boundary
  • Cooking, medication, baby-feeding, and workout intervals

Frequently asked questions

What time was it 6 hours ago?

Subtract 6 hours from the current time. The live answer is at the top of this page — check the amber Result Clock and the big digital time; both refresh every second.

What do the two clocks mean?

The blue clock is your base time (now, or your custom pick). The amber clock is the calculated result after adding or subtracting your interval.

What does the 24-hour ring show?

It maps both times onto a single 24-hour dial (midnight at top) and shades the selected interval as a percentage of a day. 6 hours = 25%, 12 hours = 50%, 24 hours = 100%.

What if the result falls on a different day?

The date, the “Day shifted?” stat and the phase banner update automatically — you will see “Yesterday”, “Tomorrow”, or the exact day difference.

Can I calculate minutes, days, or weeks instead of hours?

Yes — change the Period dropdown and pick “ago” or “from now”. The clocks and ring adapt to any period.

Which timezone is used?

Your device’s local timezone, shown in the “Your current time” panel along with its UTC offset.

Can I calculate from a time other than now?

Yes — set Base time to “Pick a custom date & time” and choose any starting moment; the base clock will show that time.
